Scanly Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-05-20
Scanly is a document scanner. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
- Account info. When you sign in with Apple or Google we receive your name, email address, and a stable identifier from that provider. We don't see your Apple or Google password.
- Your scans. Documents you scan (page images, generated PDFs, file names, tags, notes, OCR text) are uploaded to our server so you can access them across devices.
- Folder sharing. When you create a share link or accept one, the name and identifier of the people who join are recorded against that folder so you can approve or remove them.
- Diagnostic logs. Our server logs request paths, response codes, and basic timing data to operate the service. These logs are retained for 30 days.
What we do not collect
- We do not run third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or trackers.
- We do not show ads.
- We do not sell or rent your data to anyone.
- We do not access your photo library or camera unless you tap a button that triggers a scan or import.
Where data is stored
Account information and scan metadata are stored in a private MongoDB instance. Page image bytes are stored in GridFS in the same MongoDB. The server is hosted privately and accessed over HTTPS via Cloudflare.
Sharing
When you create an invite link to a folder, anyone with the link can request to join. The link's permission level (view / upload / admin) is decided by you. Members you approve can see and (depending on permission) modify the contents of that folder until you remove them or revoke the link.
Your choices
- Sign out at any time from Settings → Sign out. Your data stays on the server in case you sign back in.
- Delete your account from Settings → Delete my account. This permanently wipes your user record, every folder you own, every scan, every page (including the image bytes in GridFS), every share link you created, and every push token registered to your account. It is irreversible.
- Switch accounts. Signing in as a different user wipes the previous account's data from this device.
Children
Scanly is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us so we can remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
